Topic Overview (beta ver. 1.0)
According to several local real estate agents the average turn-around time for a house in the Daintree is two years.
First year How romantic! "Dahling, we're living in the Rainforest!"
Second year
No mains power, perpetual maintenance, mould and fungus everywhere, no
mobile service and slow internet and the water supply is gone. "Were
outahere! Back to Sydney ..."
In short, there is a cost for the
romance of living off-grid in a tropical rainforest. If you don't have
self-sufficiency skills (or pots of money to pay contractors), life in
the Daintree may not be for you.
The purpose of this web site is
to give you a sense of what is required to successfully adapt to life
here in the Daintree. After considering the resources listed below, we
strongly recommend that you visit with Daintree residents. Daintree
locals are by far your best source of advice. Note however, that what is
and isnt permitted by the current Douglas Shire Planning Scheme on your (potential) property may be very different to what is permitted on your neighbours' property.
